Why Do Cats Knead?

If you’re a cat owner then you have noticed your cat “kneading”. It’s also called “making biscuits”. This is an adorable motion cats make, continue reading to discover why.

Stretching: Kneading is one way cats stretch out. Similar to humans, cats need to stretch out their bodies and kneading is one way they acomplish that.

Scent marking: This is one way for cats to leave behind their scent. They transfer their pheromones when they knead which is sometimes why they do this. They have scent glands in their paws and kneading is how they mark where they want to.

Comfort: It’s a relaxing motion for cats and can help them unwind and settle in. They are stretching themselves out and preparing to relax. Sometimes it’s also part of nesting for them. It’s their way of preparing their bed or nesting area.
