Signs Your Dog Has Heat Stroke

Hot weather can be a tricky time to keep your pup cool especially when also ensuring they get proper exercise. Below are signs to look out for.

  1. Excessive panting: If your dog is heavily panting this can be a clear indicator of heat stroke. Labored breathing or wheezing can be a sign you need to quickly get your dog cooled off.

  2. Thick saliva: This is often paired with their panting. If you notice the panting and they have thick drool paired with it your dog may be suffering from heat stroke. You will notice more saliva than they normally have.

  3. Behavior changes: You may notice your dog becoming lethargic or wobbly. They begin pacing or appear agitated.

  4. Color change: Their gums may turn darker or paler or a bluish color indicating they are overheated. You may even notice that their face color seems off. As there owner you will notice if they look a little paler similar to how we notice in humans.
