Why Is My Dog Digging So Much?
Instinct: Dogs dig when they smell something they want to uncover. They may smell something and they are digging to get to it because it’s their natural instinct.
Boredom: It’s common for dog owners to not be providing their dogs with enough stimulation and exercise. If you find your dog constantly digging holes they may be bored and need additional exercise.
Comfort: During summer when it gets incredibly hot, your dog may be trying to lower their body temp by laying in the cooler dirt. Especially if they have a double coat and are prone to over heating. They may be digging to get to the cooler soil to cool off.
Escape: Your dog may be trying to escape and go for a run. It’s somewhat common for dogs to be curious about their surroundings and get the urge to break out and go exploring.
