How To Take Care Of Your Dog In The Heat
Summer months can be a tough time to keep your dog cool and prevent overheating. Below, you will find some tips and strategies to help keep your pup cool in the summer.
Walks before it gets hot: good idea during the summer months is to avoid taking you dog for a walk when the sun is the highest in the sky. They can easily overheat if your walking them at the hottest time of the day. The pavement gets too hot for their paws and can cause burns or blisters. It’s best to walk them early in the morning before it gets too hot or later in the evening.
Alternate form of exercise: If it’s an option, taking your dog for a swim instead of a walk is a great choice. Changing up the exercise routine to something different or the location is a great way to keep them cool. Taking them somewhere where they can get in the water, a hike in the mountains, a friends backyard that has sprinklers.
Hydration: It’s incredibly important to make sure your dog stays properly hydrated. This may mean bringing ice to keep the water cool. It’s important that your dog has cool water to help beat the heat so bringing cold water and a way to keep that water cold is going to help your dog.
Hair cut: Making sure your dog is getting their coat tripped is incredibly helpful to keep them cool in the summer months. Shaving them down or cutting their hair will help keep them cool. Especially is you have a dog with a double coat. You want to get as much of that fur off their bodies to avoid them overheating.
